Michael Hunter
Player News
Hunter (groin) has reverted to the Chiefs injured reserve per the NFL's official transaction log.
A groin injury led to Hunter getting waived/injured by the Chiefs, but he ultimately went unclaimed. He will now spend the rest of the season on IR unless both parties can reach an injury settlement.
Hunter was sidelined from Tuesday's practice due to a groin injury, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
The severity of Hunter's injury is not known at this time, but it was enough to make him a non-participant Tuesday. The 26-year-old has spent time with the Giants and Broncos during his first two seasons and is now looking to make an impression at the Chiefs' camp. It will be advantageous for him to return sooner than later, as he is presumably on the outside looking in at a final roster spot as of now.
Hunter signed with the Chiefs on Thursday, Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas City Star reports.
Hunter was most recently waived by the Giants back in May, and he failed to log any time in the NFL last season before being waived by the Broncos early in the campaign. The Chiefs likely see Hunter as a training camp body more than a viable candidate for a roster spot, but he could naturally change that perception with strong performances in practice and preseason games if he gets sufficient opportunity.
Hunter was waived by the Giants on Monday.
Hunter didn't play in the NFL last year after missing time due to migraines and being cut by the Broncos. His journey back to the league will now have to take another detour after Monday's news.
