Raiders signed EDGE Maxx Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension.
According to The Athletic’s Tashan Reed, the deal includes $91.5 million guaranteed. The extension makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Crosby was under contract for two more seasons before signing the deal but had no guaranteed money left on his contract. The Raiders didn’t have to extend him yet, but the move was inevitable and getting it done early keeps one of the few standout players on the roster content. Crosby missed five games in 2024, limiting him to 7.5 sacks and “only” 17 TFLs. Despite a quiet year for his lofty standards, there’s no reason to think the star EDGE defender won’t bounce back in 2025, especially with defensive-minded Pete Carroll at the helm.
Raiders GM John Spytek said he envisions Maxx Crosby being a Raider for “a long time.”
“And I think that’s what he wants too,” Spytek followed. Crosby has no guaranteed money left on his contract and had season-ending ankle surgery, but has been one of the NFL’s most impactful defenders when healthy and is only entering his age-28 season. He finished 2024 with 7.5 sacks in 12 games. The direction the Raiders have seemed to take since Pete Carroll and Spytek took over in January is one of winning in the short-term, and it would be surprising if they let Crosby go under those circumstances.
Maxx Crosby said he is expected to be out of his walking boot next Monday as he continues to recover from surgery on his left ankle.
Crosby underwent season-ending surgery in December to fix an issue he had been dealing with for a significant portion of the season. When asked about his recovery on Thursday, Crosby said, “I’m A-plus across the board, as far as everything with Dr. Anderson...I’m in a great place right now.” The 7.5 sacks Crosby totaled last season were his fewest since 2021, but it directly coincides with the fact he only played in 12 games — also a career-low. Crosby will be 28 at the start of next season and appears to be on track for the start of training camp.
Raiders EDGE Maxx Crosby will undergo season-ending left ankle surgery.
Dealing with the second “roll up” of his left ankle this year, 27-year-old Crosby is opting for the operation instead of fighting through what seems to be another high sprain. It’s a sensible choice both for Crosby and the Raiders, though his Vegas future is uncertain. Highly-paid Crosby’s deal is out of guaranteed money, and it could be a good time for both sides to part company. The Raiders are rebuilding, and Crosby is at a stage of his contract where restructures/extensions are common. A trade and a flood of new guaranteed money would be highly unsurprising. Crosby had never missed time with injury before 2024.
