Player News

Sanchez is retiring from the NFL, Andrew Marchand of the NY Post reports.

Sanchez struggled in two games with Washington last season, tossing three interceptions and no touchdowns on 35 pass attempts. The 32-year-old quarterback made just three starts over the past four seasons and now will shift his focus to his new job as a college football analyst for ABC/ESPN.

The NFL handed Sanchez a four-game suspension for a violation of the policy on performance-enhancing substances, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Sanchez hasn't been called upon to perform since two appearances for the Cowboys in 2016 and hasn't been a regular starter since the second half of the 2014 season with the Eagles. Having said that, he still served as the Bears' third-string QB last year, so he holds a certain sway among NFL front offices. While he'll miss the first quarter of the upcoming campaign, it won't surprise if he latches onto a roster somewhere in the coming months.

Mark Sanchez is expected to be active and get most of the snaps in Week 17.

Cowboys reportedly plan to use Mark Sanchez as Dak Prescott's backup in Week 17.

With Tony Romo seemingly made of glass, this makes sense as the Cowboys want him fully healthy for the playoff run, if he is needed. It also makes sense that the 'Boys want to keep him healthy in order to try and deal him in the offseason as they have found their future in Dak Prescott. Sanchez is nothing more than a journeyman backup at this point in his career, as he has been given multiple chances to start, and has done little with the opportunities.
