49ers released WR Malik Turner.
Turner caught three touchdowns for the Cowboys last season and is a special teams contributor, so it would not be surprising to see him crack a different roster. The 49ers appear to have opted to take Ray-Ray McCloud over Turner.
49ers signed WR Malik Turner, formerly of the Cowboys, to a one-year contract.
Defensive lineman Maurice Hurst was cut and is expected to be re-signed in a procedural maneuver. Turner spent the past two seasons in Dallas. Unlike in 2020, when he was made inactive for most of the year, Turner saw an unusual amount of playing time last year. Injuries to a few Cowboys wideouts put him on the field infrequently and he made the most of his limited reps by posting a 12/149/3 receiving line. Turner made a few splashy plays and could get some run as the 49ers' WR4 during the 2022 season.
Free agent WR Malik Turner visited the Cardinals Wednesday.
Turner, 26, spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys after opening his career with two in Seattle. A deep reserve for Dallas, Turner had a couple big games in blowouts last season, going 5-33-2 against the Broncos in Week 9 and 3-82-1 versus Washington in Week 15. He's averaged 14.3 yards per catch in his career.
Cowboys activated WR Malik Turner (foot) from injured reserve.
It's possible he'll be active for special teams depth as early as Week 4 against the Panthers. A 2018 UDFA sweeped off waivers from Seattle last year, Turner has yet to register a single catch with Dallas.
