FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reports that the Raiders signed S Lonnie Johnson Jr.
Johnson provides depth in the secondary and reliable special teams skills. Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has long appreciated players with diverse skill sets, who can contribute in multiple facets of the game. While Johnson may not be a high-snap defensive player, he will be given a chance to contribute in his own way.
Texans agreed to terms with CB Lonnie Johnson, formerly of the Saints, on a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
Johnson heads back to Houston after spending two years as a reserve first in Tennessee then New Orleans. All 19 of his career starts came 2019-21 for the Texans. Two months shy of his 27th birthday, Johnson should remain a defensive depth piece and core special teamer.
Saints DB Lonnie Johnson left the team’s Week 4 game against the Buccaneers with an apparent injury.
Johnson first went into the medical tent, then headed into the locker room prior to halftime. His quick exit into the locker room indicates it will be difficult for him to return, but the Saints will presumably evaluate Johnson over halftime.
Saints signed DB Lonnie Johnson, formerly of the Titans.
Johnson started his career in Houston, starting 19 games for the franchise after being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Capable of playing both safety and corner, Johnson should help fill a depth role behind established starters.
