Eagles signed LB Kyzir White to a one-year, $5 million contract.
White had a breakout 2021, registering 144 tackles, seven TFLs, and two interceptions while playing 84% of defensive snaps as an every-down starter. The Chargers played primarily out of their nickel package where White, a converted safety, excelled as an off-ball linebacker. White projects to start on the weak-side in Philly and should upgrade an Eagles defense that had just 16 takeaways last season.
Chargers placed LB Kyzir White on the COVID-19 list.
Players being added this late in the week is always a concern, but there are no reports of the Chargers having a breakout. They remain on track to play against the Jets on Sunday.
White recorded 40 tackles (25 solo) and an interception across 16 games in the 2019 season.
After injuries cut White's rookie campaign short, the linebacker put together a relatively impressive second season despite playing less than 400 total snaps. Regarded as one of the more nimble linebackers in the NFL, White's speed was evident, especially when dropping back into coverage, a fact that eventually pushed nominal starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman into a two-down role. Weighing just 218 pounds, the 23-year-old doesn't have the prototypical size to be an everyday middle linebacker at the moment, but with the possibility of Perryman becoming a cap casualty this offseason, the pressure might be on White to bulk up in preparation for a larger workload in 2020.
White recorded two tackles (one solo), an interception and a pass defensed across 34 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
White injected life into the Chargers for a brief moment in the third quarter, intercepting a Joe Flacco pass and setting up the Bolts with a first-and-goal situation. After only playing in a combined 20 snaps over the past two games, White saw a major jump in productivity Sunday. Whether he sees as much playing time this week against the Steelers remains to be seen.
