Washington signed TE Kaden Smith.
Smith spent 2022 out of the league after getting waived last offseason. The ex-Giants tight end gives Washington veteran depth with 22 starts in three seasons. Smith’s career peaked in 2018, when he started over TE Evan Engram under Giants HC Pat Shurmur. Adding Smith is a bad sign for TE Logan Thomas (calf), who missed Washington’s preseason opener.
Colts signed TE Kaden Smith to a contract.
Smith was cut from the Giants last March with a failed physical designation and never latched on with a team. After going for 31-268-3 in nine games as a rookie in 2019, Smith's production only declined in each of the following seasons. A former sixth-round draft pick, Smith joins a deep tight end room in Indianapolis, and will likely have to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster in training camp.
Giants waived TE Kaden Smith.
Smith got the failed physical designation. He cooked a bit down the stretch in 2019, but has been a non-factor over the last two seasons and was placed on IR with a knee injury in early December. He's still only 24 and could resurface.
Smith filled in for an injured Evan Engram down the stretch and performed surprisingly well for a rookie with 30 catches and three touchdowns over the Giants' final six games.
Engram should be healthy to start the year, but it's hard to ignore how reliable Smith was as a sixth-round rookie, and Engram has hardly been a paragon of health. Don't be surprised if Smith continues to carve out a role in his second year.
