Saints agreed to terms with S Justin Reid, formerly of the Chiefs, on a three-year, $31.5 million contract.
Adam Schefter notes that Reid will get $22.25 million fully guaranteed. It’s a strong contract for the 28-year-old safety, who finished 2024 with a career-best 78.2 PFF grade and is versatile enough to play in the box, over the top, and at slot if necessary. He’ll give defensive coordinator Brandon Staley some pre-snap versatility. Reid will replace Will Harris, who the Commanders signed earlier today, as New Orleans’ starting safety next to Tyrann Mathieu.
Chiefs activated S Justin Reid (quad) from the non-football injury list.
Reid opened training camp on the non-football injury but is now back with the team. The veteran safety totaled 95 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in his second year with the Chiefs and has been instrumental in the team’s last two Super Bowl runs. At just 27 years old, Reid is a staple in a secondary that lost star corner L’Jarius Sneed earlier this offseason. With a little less than a month before the season gets underway, his return is a welcomed one for the Chiefs and their top-flight defense.
Chiefs placed S Justin Reid (quad) on the NFL list.
The report comes from Arrowhead Pride’s Pete Sweeney. Reid is considered day-to-day with the injury and has been a steady presence for the Chiefs safety unit since signing with the team in 2022. His 1,560 coverage snaps over the last two years are more than twice as many as the next closest current Chiefs safety.
Chiefs signed S Justin Reid, formerly of the Texans, to a three-year, $31.5 million contract.
With Tyrann Mathieu widely expected to walk in free agency, Reid arrives as the Honey Badger's replacement. The No. 68 overall pick of the 2018 draft, Reid has been starting since his rookie year. He was better in 2018-19 before a team-wide malaise took hold of the Texans in 2020-21. Rather amazingly, Reid has only one career pick, but he has had good seasons both in coverage and as a run defender. He just hasn't put it all together in a while. The Chiefs clearly believe he will be able to do so in a much better environment.
