Texans released C Justin Britt.
Britt essentially was AWOL from the team after Week 1 and reportedly was working through "personal issues" at the time. Signed to a two-year deal last offseason, it's possible that his NFL career is over. The move frees up about $3 million in cap space.
Texans placed C Justin Britt on the reserve/non-football illness list.
Britt did not play in Week 2, and coach Lovie Smith was coy when asked about the absence. There have been reports he is working through some personal issues. Scott Quessenberry will start at center while Britt is out.
Texans C Justin Britt (undisclosed) is out for Week 2 against the Broncos.
Head coach Lovie Smith was coy when asked about Britt's absence, saying he would tell the media about Britt's reason for missing this week's game another time. Losing Britt for Week 2 isn't a great development for Davis Mills and the Texans offense as they go against a tough Denver defense.
Texans re-signed C Justin Britt to a two-year, $9 million contract.
After six seasons with the Seahawks, Britt spent 2020 mostly out of the league before joining the Texans last offseason and then went on to start all 11 games he appeared in around a knee injury. Britt received plus marks for his run blocking and turns 31 in May. He'll be the favorite to start at the pivot Week 1.
