Julius Peppers
Player News
Peppers is re-signing with the Panthers on a one-year deal, Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The 38-year-old defensive end had 33 tackles, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season, extending his remarkable streak to 10 consecutive years with at least seven sacks. He primarily saw the field on passing downs in 2017, playing 50.1 percent of Carolina's defensive snaps. Another double-digit sack campaign is a lot to ask for in a part-time role, but Peppers has proven that isn't out of the question. He had shoulder surgery in early February and expects to be back at full strength for the start of training camp.
Peppers intends to return for a 16th season in 2017, ESPN's Rob Demovsky and Vaughn McClure report.
Peppers is set to become a free agent after playing out his three-year contract with the Packers. During that span, Peppers posted 25 sacks, including 7.5 this past season, moving him into fifth all-time in career sacks (143.5). At 37 years old, Peppers has transitioned into a situational player focused on rushing the passer, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of interest he receives on the open market this week.
Julius Peppers (rest) returned to full practice Thursday.
Green Bay is simply trying to keep him rested for the second round matchup with Dallas this weekend and there is no injury issue here. Green Bay will have their hands full with trying to slow down a varying Cowboys offense anchored by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot.
Julius Peppers played only 19 snaps in Week 10 against Tennessee.
Peppers has only made two tackles in his four games. The 36-year old has 3.5 sacks and 8 total tackles for the Packers this season. Nick Perry's performance has given him the starting role over Peppers at linebacker in Green Bay.
