Josh Ferguson

The Redskins promoted Ferguson to the active roster Week 15 following the placement of Derrius Guice (knee) on injured reserve, leading to his only carries of the season. The fourth-year pro was also active Week 17 in Dallas, though he was limited to special teams. He'll compete for a depth/special-teams role in Washington in 2020.

Ferguson was the only other Redskins running back besides Adrian Peterson to receive a carry, but the latter dominated the backfield touches with 16 totes for 66 yards and a touchdown. With Derrius Guice (knee) done for the year, Ferguson is second in line for carries, but would likely only become a true factor in Washington's run game if Peterson were to suffer an injury.

With Derrius Guice (knee) hitting injured reserve, Washington had a need for a running back. Ferguson has not appeared in an NFL game since 2017 with the Colts.

Adrian Peterson (quad) and Chris Thompson (toe) both started the week on the injury report, so Ferguson will join the team as a potential depth option. The 26-year-old hasn't seen game action since 2017 with the Colts.
