Bears signed S Jordan Lucas, formerly of the Chiefs, to a one-year contract.
Lucas was in on just 41 defensive snaps last season for the Super Bowl champs, but he was a mainstay on special teams. That figures to be his role with the Bears, though they did lose S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Cowboys.
Lucas notched seven tackles (three solo) and one defended pass across 14 regular-season games in 2019.
Lucas also recorded one tackle in three postseason appearances. The 26-year-old safety is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and his prowess on special teams could help garner interest from other clubs around the league if he does ultimately leave Kansas City.
Lucas (illness) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
Lucas was kept off the field last Friday after catching the flu bug, but he's back to full strength ahead of Super Bowl 54. The 26-year-old safety hasn't played a defensive snap since Week 16 of the regular season, so he'll likely stick to special-teams work Sunday against the 49ers.
Lucas will not practice Friday due to an illness, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Lucas appears to have caught the flu bug that's gone around Kansas City's locker room for the last week-plus. The special-teams contributor will have another full week of practice to get healthy in time for the Super Bowl against San Francisco.
