Joe Thomas
Player News
Former Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is amongst the 2023 Hall-of-Fame class.
One of the greatest left tackles to ever play the game, Canton no-doubter Thomas is joined by Darrelle Revis, DeMarcus Ware, Zach Thomas, Ronde Barber, Chuck Howley, Ken Riley, Joe Klecko and coach Don Coryell. There remains far, far too many glaring omissions from the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame, but every member of the 2023 class is worthy of the honor.
Thomas has elected to retire as an NFL player.
The 33-year-old Thomas, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, thus closes out a distinguished playing career that saw him anchor the Browns' offensive line until this past season, when he ruptured his left triceps tendon on Oct. 22. The stellar left tackle, who until last season's injury was as durable as they come, is clearly a tough act to follow, but in anticipation of Wednesday's news, the Browns are poised to add two tackles (Donald Stephenson and Chris Hubbard) in free agency.
Thomas (triceps) will undergo a MRI on Monday to see if he can return this season, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
It is feared that Thomas may have torn his triceps, but no further information will be available until after his MRI. If Thomas is out for the season, an inexperienced Zach Banner will have to step into the left tackle position.
Joe Thomas (knee) did not practice on Thursday.
The talented left tackle has wasted away on an awful Browns team, while remaining one of the best in the league at the position. It is not clear if he will play in Week 17, but it does not make much sense to push him, especially if the Browns will try to trade the veteran in the offseason.
