Jimmy Clausen

Clausen has worked out for the Redskins already on July 18th, and now will work out for the Lions. Clausen will likely be nothing more than a camp arm if he signs.

Clausen has been one of the many failed college-turned-pro QBs of recent drafts but now has gotten at least a try out with the Skins. There is very little hope for him to be anything more than a camp arm for Washington as the already have three QBs locked in on the 53-man squad. There are also reports that the team was working out some receivers so it could have just been a way to not use their own quarterbacks in the tryout. Either way this is really a non-event.

Ryan Mallet will get the start this week against the division-rival Steelers while Matt Schaub will be the back-up. Mallett was highly inefficient with the Texans earlier in the year before being cut for multiple team violations and immaturity. It is odd that Jimmy Clausen is inactive after being decent in two starts and Matt Schaub is an interception machine. Mallett should not be played in any formats.

Matt Cassel was active for the Ravens on Sunday, but the team chose to give Jimmy Clausen the start. Clausen wasn't terrible on Sunday, but he doesn't have any weapons, so he couldn't really be expected for much. Clausen will likely start Baltimore's remaining games after playing well on Sunday, but if you are starting him during your championship game next week, you'd better start praying hard.
