Jermon Bushrod
Player News
Bushrod (thumb) signed a one-day contract with the Saints on Thursday and announced his retirement from professional football.
Bushrod indicated he was contemplating retirement in January and decided to call it a career after not signing with a team throughout the offseason. The 35-year-old appeared in 145 games (128 starts) with the Saints, Bears and Dolphins over his 12-year career.
Bushrod (hamstring) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Bushrod will join fellow linemen Terron Armstead (pectoral) and Larry Warford (knee) on the sideline Week 17. The Saints already clinched the No. 1 seed, and will focus on getting their O-line healthy for the playoffs.
Bushrod did not travel with the team and won't play Sunday's game at Baltimore, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.
Bushrod is understandably not with the team due to the recent death of his newborn daughter. Rick Leonard will serve as the primary backup at offensive tackle in his absence.
Jermon Bushrod will play Week 9.
Bushrod and Tunsil will both play in this one and Jay Ajayi owners can exhale. The offensive line is the most important factor in a RB's success and two of their top linemen were questionable today. Both will be playing against the tough Jets defensive line.
