Jermaine Whitehead
Player News
The Browns waived Whitehead on Monday.
Whitehead finished this past Sunday's game with zero tackles despite playing all 50 defensive snaps. Following the contest, he sent out multiple inappropriate tweets targeted at fans and reporters, and the Browns decided to let him go as a result. Whitehead finished his tenure in Cleveland with 41 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception over eight games.
Whitehead produced nine solo tackles in Sunday's home loss to Seattle.
Whitehead was one of the few bright spots for the Browns defense, collecting his highest tackle output of the season. He's up to 36 tackles in six games, and played every defensive snap in the game, suggesting he could be a viable IDP option going forward. Whitehead and the Browns will head into their bye week for Week 7.
Whitehead made eight tackles (five solo) in Monday's 31-3 loss to the 49ers.
Even with Morgan Burnett (quadriceps) back in the fold, Whitehead logged 72 of 75 possible defensive snaps (96 percent). It was clear the Browns were easing Burnett back into action by affording him just 25 snaps, so it'll be interesting to see how their usage is distributed in Week 6 against the Seahawks.
Whitehead had eight tackles, an interception, a pass defensed and a forced fumble in Sunday's 40-25 win over the Ravens in Week 4.
Whitehead has been getting a lot playing time in place of the Browns' injured safeties. He's replaced Morgan Burnett (quadriceps) the last two games and started Week 2 for Damarious Randall, who had been dealing with a concussion until he was cleared to play against the Ravens. Whitehead's played every defensive snap the last three weeks and made 18 tackles.
