Jeff Cumberland has been placed on injured reserve after suffering torn Achilles tendon.
It's unfortunate for Cumberland as this is his second serious leg injury in his professional career. This injury could force Cumberland into early retirement.
Jeff Cumberland suffered an Achilles tear during the Chargers preseason game on Saturday and will miss the entire 2016 season.
Cumberland was right behind Sean McGraph on the depth chart for the Chargers, but unfortunately this Achilles injury has ended his season prematurely. He has shown in the past that he can be a strong option at tight end with the Jets. Hopefully he will have a full recovery and return to contribute in 2017.

Cumberland will serve likely as the backup to the ever-aging Antonio Gates, but it is still a position that he will have to win out of camp. Considering this, Cumberland should hold little fantasy value, unless of course Gates suffers an injury during the season.
