Jaye Howard
Player News
Chiefs placed Jaye Howard (hip) on injured reserve.
Howard has been out since Week 9 with the hip injury, but now it will end his 2016 season early. He has played a decent percentage of Kansas City's snaps on defense this season and will certainly make them thinner across the line, however they can get over the loss. Howard is under contract for 2017 as well and should be back to his normal self by then.
Chiefs have re-signed Jaye Howard on a two-year deal worth $12 million.
Howard is a very versatile defensive lineman for the Chiefs, so much so that he has been able to remain on the field for 70-percent of the team's defensive snaps over the last few seasons, something that is a rarity for a man his size. Although he isn't a flashy signing, he has proven to be invaluable to the Chiefs defense, so the signing makes plenty of sense.
Chiefs DL Jaye Howard was fined $17,363 for roughing the passer in Week 12.
Howard will be the starter at nose tackle if Dontari Poe cannot give it a go on Sunday against the Raiders in Oakland. The fine will have no effect on his playing time.
Jaye Howard tallied eight total tackles, including five solo stops and three tackles-for-loss, during the Chiefs’ 38-28 loss to the Packers on Monday night.
Howard was one of the few defensive players for the Chiefs that didn't have a bad game against the elite Packers offense that carved them up the entire night. The Chiefs have an elite defense with some of the best pass rushers in the game--but when playing against the game's best quarterback in Aaron Rodgers at home, sometimes it doesn't matter. They will look to bounce back next week against the Bengals in another tough matchup.
