Jason Peters retired from the NFL after 21 seasons.
Peters just turned 43 years old and was on Seattle’s practice squad as recently as last year. Fittingly, the NFL lifer will be joining the Seahawks’ front office as an assistant to vice president of player affairs Mo Kelly. Seahawks GM John Schneider made the announcement at the NFL Combine. Peters entered the NFL as a UDFA and quickly worked his way into the Bills’ starting lineup. He eventually made his way to Philly where he became a Super Bowl champion. Peters ended his career with two First-Team All-Pro nods and nine Pro Bowl appearances.
Seahawks signed OT Jason Peters.
Peters, 42, is playing in his 21st NFL season. He played eight games with the Seahawks in 2023, starting two before a late November injury against the Niners. Peters will likely be a rotational player on the Seattle offensive line. Pro Football Focus grades the Seahawks’ offensive line as the NFL’s fourth worst pass blocking unit through Week 4.
Free agent OT Jason Peters is visiting with the Seahawks on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old tackle had by far his worst season last year with the Seahawks, posting a 45.1 PFF pass blocking grade that becomes a lot more acceptable when you realize he was 41 years old. This could potentially be about tackle depth for Seattle, as George Fant went to IR and Abe Lucas is out until midseason at the earliest.
Seahawks declared OT Abraham Lucas, OT Jason Peters, DT Jarran Reed, LB Patrick O’Connell, RB Kenny McIntosh, DE Mario Edwards, and OT Raiqwon O’Neal inactive for Week 18 against the Cardinals.
The Seahawks are close to full strength as they fight to stay alive in the NFC playoff picture. They’ll need a win and a loss by the Packers to back their way into the seven-seed.
