Eagles waived RB Jason Huntley.
Huntley, a former Lions draft pick out of New Mexico State, was active for five games last year, carrying the ball five times for 19 yards. The speedy back will likely land on a practice squad this summer or fall.
Eagles claimed RB Jason Huntley off waivers from the Lions.
Huntley was the Lions' fifth-round pick in April, but he didn't make it through final cuts after Detroit added Adrian Peterson to a backfield that already included D'Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson. Huntley slides in as the Eagles' No. 4 running back behind Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Corey Clement. Huntley is very slight at 5'9/194 but was electric with the ball in his hands at New Mexico State.
Lions waived RB Jason Huntley.
Huntley was a fifth-round pick a few months ago, but he doesn't crack the initial 53-man roster. At New Mexico State, Huntley had some explosive runs. He just may not have the size (5'9/194) to hang in the NFL. The Lions probably hope to sign him on the practice squad, but another team may swoop in. His path to an active roster is as a special teamer who can catch passes on third down.
Lions selected New Mexico State RB Jason Huntley with the No. 172 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Lions added a traditional, and potential foundation, running back in the second round in D'Andre Swift. They now circle back with a potential playmaker and space back in Huntley, who was absolutely electric in college. Huntley posted over 1,000 rushing yards as a senior, 40 receptions and 11 total touchdowns. He was not invited to the NFL Combine, but it would not have been surprising to see Huntley post great explosion scores if the draft process was not canceled this year. If he makes the Lions roster, it likely will be in place of Ty Johnson.
