Falcons signed WR/KR Jakeem Grant, formerly of the Browns.
The former second-team All-Pro special teams ace has not played a regular season snap since 2021 as a member of the Bears and Dolphins. A preseason season-ending torn Achilles in 2022 derailed his time spent with the Browns, prompting his release. Grant could stick with the Falcons as a kick return specialist but is unlikely to earn regular snaps at wide receiver, even with the recent season-ending injury to Rondale Moore.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports free agent WR Jakeem Grant will participate in Jets minicamp on a tryout basis.
Grant suffered a season-ending knee injury last preseason with the Browns and hasn’t played a regular-season snap since 2021. Grant suffered a torn Achilles in training camp in 2022 but was a second-team All-Pro in 2020 and 2021 while with the Dolphins and Bears. Grant has never totaled more than 373 yards as a receiver and wouldn’t come with any fantasy upside if he were to make the Jets’ 53-man roster.
Browns WR/KR Jakeem Grant (knee) will miss the 2023 season.
Grant was taken off the field by cart with his leg in an air cast Saturday. It was his first game action since suffering a torn Achilles in the 2022 season.
Browns WR/PR Jakeem Grant was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg during the team’s third preseason game Saturday.
Grant was recently cleared to return to game action after working his way back from a torn Achilles suffered last season and was in line to serve as the primary punt returner for the Browns in the coming season. No update has been provided but it looks as if Grant is likely to miss time in 2023.
