Jake Ryan
Player News
Ravens signed ILB Jake Ryan, formerly of the Jaguars, to a one-year contract.
The 28-year-old missed the entire 2018 season in Green Bay with a torn ACL. He then signed with the Jaguars last offseason, only to open the year on the NFI list, appear in two games, and then land on I.R. The Ravens are desperate for inside linebacker help after losing C.J. Mosley last year and then Patrick Onwuasor and Josh Bynes this offseason, all in free agency.
The Jaguars declined to pick up Ryan's (hamstring) 2020 option, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Ryan missed the first 12 games due to a knee injury, and after getting back in action for two contests, he was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Over those two games, Ryan only played on special teams. This move will save the Jaguars cap space. Ryan hasn't played a full season since 2017 with the Packers, and he'll likely seek a reserve role elsewhere.
Ryan (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
An offseason signing by the Jaguars, Ryan will finish his first season in Jacksonville with 35 special teams snaps and no tackles in two games. The Jaguars signed free agent Dakota Allen to bolster their middle linebacker depth now that Ryan is done for the rest of the season.
Coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Ryan (hamstring) will be sidelined "indefinitely," John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Ryan exited Sunday's loss to the Chargers in the second quarter and did not retake the field. Wednesday's first injury report of the week should shed some light on the depth linebacker's status, but he appears to be trending toward sitting out Week 15's tilt in Oakland. Joe Giles-Harris stands to play an expanded depth role as long as Ryan is unable to go.
