Van Roten turned 35 in February, coming off yet a reliable, if non-elite season with the Giants. Both his 65.0 PFF pass-blocking grade and 65.9 PFF run-blocking grade rank top 16 among the top 32 right guards (450 min. snaps). The franchise has been unable to woo any of the available veteran quarterbacks but perhaps Van Roten’s signing moves the needle, if only a little bit.

Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Jermaine Eluemunor is going to play right tackle with Van Roten at right guard. That means Evan Neal is the odd man out. The former top-10 pick is currently on the PUP list and doesn’t appear to have a role in the New York offense. Van Roten started all 17 games for the Raiders last year and is a solid addition for a team that fielded one of the league’s worst offensive lines in 2023.

He’s played on three different teams over the last three years and has started 71 of the 110 career games he’s appeared in. The Giants had one of the worst offensive lines in the league last season and could benefit from some upgrades — specifically along the interior. Ben Bredeson and Justin Pugh, who led the team in snaps at both guard positions last season, are no longer with the team. Van Roten could likely earn the starting job in camp if he were to sign.

Van Roten appeared in nine games for the Bills last season, starting once at center and twice at guard. A versatile interior lineman, Van Roten is a well-traveled veteran of the league who has also spent time with the Jets, Panthers, and Packers. He'll likely serve as added depth for the Raiders but can fill in at a moment's notice should a player ahead of him go down.
