Jackson, 32, played about 60 percent of the Seahawks offensive snaps in 2022 before the team released him in the offseason. In Carolina, he’ll likely be a rotational lineman. Pro Football Focus grades Carolina’s offensive line as the league’s third worst pass blocking unit.

Jackson, who turns 32 in July, played 61.6% of the team's offensive snaps and platooned at times with backup Phil Haynes. It seemed pretty clear from Haynes' re-signing that Jackson was on the chopping block and several beat reporters discussed the possibility. Jackson has not played particularly well in either of the last two years with Seattle and is likely a stopgap-only option in free agency. The move saves $6.5 million on Seattle's 2023 cap. 

As Dugar points out in his article, the Seahawks are already in pretty good shape as far as cap space is concerned, but it could always be better. Jackson and Harris are set to earn $11.2 million and $12.2 million next season but could be cut for a savings of $15.4 million. Jackson dealt with a knee issue last season that limited him to 61.6 percent of the team's offensive snaps, while Harris, who will be 32 at the start of next season, started 15 games but managed just two sacks. As the team draws closer to a new deal for Geno Smith, it's possible both Jackson and Harris could be on the outs as the team looks to free up cap space for younger talent.

Jackson was listed as doubtful, so his absence isn't much of a surprise. Phil Haynes will take his place in the lineup.
