Herron signed with the Lions on Tuesday.
Herron had been on several teams' practice squads over the past couple of seasons but was with Miami prior to his new contract. Detroit has a number of banged-up linemen at the moment, so he has a chance to make his NFL debut against Tampa Bay in Week 15.
Tennessee waived Herron on Friday, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.
Herron spent the 2018 season on the Patriots' practice squad. The 25-year-old has yet to see any regular-season NFL action since going undrafted out of LSU in 2018.
