Fitzgerald Toussaint
Player News
Fitzgerald Toussaint (concussion) is questionable for Sunday.
This is a new injury coming off his appearance in the Wild Card win over the Dolphins last Sunday. He is currently in the protocol and will need to be cleared before playing in the Divisional round in Kansas City on this coming Sunday. Toussaint doesn't factor much in the backfield for Pittsburgh but his a kick returner for them so it could hinder their special teams a bit if he's not able to go.
Fitzgerald Toussaint will be the Steelers backup running back.
There was little choice in this decision. Toussaint is the only other active running back on the roster behind Le'Veon Bell now that DeAngelo Williams is out after a knee surgery. He likely won't touch the ball enough to make a difference in his value over the next month and there is always the chance that Pittsburgh will bring someone else in to compete for the backup role.
Fitzgerald Toussaint carried the ball 12 times for 39 yards with one touchdown and caught three passes on three targets for two yards during Pittsburgh's loss to the Broncos on Sunday.
Toussaint found the end zone Sunday, but also coughed the ball up at the worst possible time. You can hardly fault the second-year running back as he was thrust into a starting role with very little experience. Still, he showed enough promise during the playoffs that Pittsburgh will likely use him as Le'Veon Bell's backup in 2016. Unless DeAngelo Williams take a discount next season to stay with the team, it's all but certain that he will have a new home. Toussaint should be proud of his efforts over the past two weeks even though his team came up short.
Fitzgerald Toussaint carried the ball 17 times for 58 yards and caught four passes on eight targets for 60 yards during the Steelers win over Cincinnati on Saturday night.
This was exactly the kind of game that Pittsburgh needed from Toussaint and they got it. Not only did do well, but Pittsburgh's other running back on Saturday night, Jordan Todman, did a fine job himself. Both players combined for over 100 yards on the ground and due to their success, the Steelers didn't have to rely on 40-plus throws from Ben Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh is hoping to have DeAngelo Williams back next week, but if by chance he is unable to go, Toussaint would see a heavy dose against a stout Broncos run defense.
