Free agent DL Eddie Vanderdoes worked out for the 49ers.
The Texans released Vanderdoes, who opted out of 2020 season, in February. The 2017 third-rounder was a 13 game starter as a rookie but has appeared in just three games since. San Francisco also worked out undrafted DE Justus Reed.
Texans DL Eddie Vanderdoes has opted out of the 2020 NFL season.
Vanderdoes played three games with the Texans last year after starting 13 games for the Raiders in 2017. He didn't play in 2018. He was expected to be part of Houston's defensive line rotation this season. Vanderdoes will collect the $150,000 stipend designated for players who opt out for non-injury reasons.
Vanderdoes was signed from the practice squad by Houston on Saturday.
Vanderdoes last appeared in an NFL game in 2017 with Oakland. He played in all 16 games that year and registered 18 tackles. The 25-year-old nose tackle will serve as a depth piece for Houston.
Vanderdoes (concussion) had a workout with the Patriots on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Vanderdoes recently reached an injury settlement with the Raiders after being placed on injured reserve with a concussion. His workout with the Pats indicates he is back to full health and ready to go once given the opportunity.
