Dolphins re-signed LB Duke Riley to a two-year contract..
Riley is a role-player on defense and a notable contributor on special teams for the Dolphins. He only logged one sack and a pair of TFLs on defense but took the field for 73 percent of the Dolphins' special teams snaps. His two-way utility was more than enough to earn him a multi-year deal.
Dolphins re-signed LB Duke Riley to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Riley, a seven-year veteran, will return for a second season with the Dolphins. In 2021, he served as a depth linebacker and a special teams player. He should maintain that role for Miami in 2022.
Dolphins signed LB Duke Riley to a one-year contract.
Riley made eight starts for the Eagles last year, posting 55 tackles, an interception, and two TFLs. He'll replace Kamu Grugier-Hill as a depth presence and special teams contributor. The Dolphins also added ex-Texans OLB Brennan Scarlet this week.
Riley is being traded along with a 2020 sixth-round pick from the Falcons to the Eagles in exchange for Johnathan Cyprien and a 2020 seventh-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Riley didn't play a snap on defense across four games with the Falcons this season. He'll need to develop consistency as a tackler to earn a substantial role with the Eagles, but a change of surrounding could be what the 2017 third-round pick needs. At the very least, Riley should contribute on special teams in Philadelphia.
