Doug Middleton

Middleton started the year with the Dolphins and played one game before being cut. The 26-year-old has starting experience, as he started three games with the Jets last year, recording 23 tackles and two pass breakups. He'll likely work on special teams with the Jaguars with a chance to rotate in on defense Sunday against the Falcons.

Middleton only suited up for one game with the Dolphins and didn't post a tackle. Over 12 NFL games, Middleton has made 33 tackles and four pass breakups. This move likely means the Dolphins have confidence Bobby McCain (hamstring) and Reshad Jones (ankle) will be ready for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

The Dolphins are bringing in Middleton after they traded Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Steelers on Monday. Middleton started three games for the Jets last season, but he saw his reps drop severely when he suffered multiple injuries, including a season-ending pectoral tear. The 25-year-old will have a chance to rejuvenate his career, as he should have a chance to earn a starting job if he can stay healthy.

It sounds like Middleton is healthy after spending the final nine games of the 2018 season on injured reserve with a torn pectoral. He's only getting first-team reps due to the limitations of Marcus Maye (shoulder), but it's nonetheless a sign of Middleton's standing as a top depth option in advance of the 2019 campaign. The fourth-year safety racked up 27 tackles and three pass breakups in seven games with the Jets in 2018.
