Johnson is signing a one-day contract to retire with the Chiefs, 610 Sports Radio reports.

Johnson came to Kansas City in the first-round back in 2015 and left after 13 seasons as the team's all-time leading tackler. The Chiefs parted ways when the aging veteran last offseason in the name of cap relief, which seemingly proved to the right thing to do after the 36-year-old linebacker lasted just six games last season with the Raiders before being released. Now officially calling it quits, Johnson retires as a four-time Pro-Bowler who has 1,168 total tackles and a 2011 first-team All-Pro nod to his name.

Chiefs have placed LB Derrick Johnson on the injured reserve.

He could be done as a NFL player with is latest injury. He is the heart and soul of the KC defense, and his loss will impact the team tremendously going forward.

Johnson is now done for the season. It is possible that he will never play another snap in the NFL, which is a tragedy for IDP players.

Derrick Johnson plans to undergo surgery for his ruptured Achilles on Saturday morning.

After going down with a ruptured left Achilles' tendon, it's looking unlikely that he'll be back in time for Week 1 of next season. Johnson was having a solid season as a every-down guy for the Chiefs. Chiefs defense will need to fill the spot at line-backer for the rest of this season.
