Chiefs acquired TE Daniel Brown from the Jets in exchange for OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
It could signify more 12/13 personnel for Kansas City after Patrick Mahomes completed the most passes behind the line of scrimmage by any quarterback in a game since 2016 on Monday night. Brown, a core special teamer in New York, had played 13 snaps on offense all year.
Jets re-signed TE Daniel Brown.
Primarily a special teams player for New York, Brown, 28, will return for his third season with the Jets. Brown played a team-high 334 snaps on special teams last year. He had two receptions last season on limited offensive snaps, and hasn't caught more than 10 balls since the 2017 season.
Brown signed a one-year contract extension with the Jets on Thursday.
Brown appeared in all 16 regular-season games with the Jets in 2019, hauling in seven catches for 72 yards and one touchdown. He also played a key role on special teams. The veteran tight end stands to handle a similar role on the tight end depth chart for 2020.
Brown caught three of four targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 13-6 win over Buffalo.
Brown came in with just four catches all season but closed out the campaign in style with his first multi-catch effort. He was forced into a larger role with injuries ravaging the tight end depth chart above him, but Brown will go back to a depth role next season, be it with the Jets or elsewhere.
