Eagles signed DB Craig James to a one-year extension through 2021.
Initially set to become a restricted free agent next offseason, James will receive $300,000 guaranteed with a $1.52 million salary in 2021. Primarily a special teams contributor last year, James did flash Swiss Army knife traits in logging 51 snaps out wide, 12 snaps at linebacker, and another three snaps as Philadelphia's slot corner.
James was signed to the Eagles' active roster Tuesday.
James, who previously resided on Philadelphia's practice squad, logged 11 special-teams snaps compared to one defensive snap for the Eagles in Week 2 against Atlanta. He figures to again serve as depth/special-teams player during Thursday's game against the Packers, but that could change quickly if an injury forces another cornerback to join starter Ronald Darby (hamstring) on the sidelines. Wide receiver Greg Ward was waived in a corresponding transaction.
James was cut by Philadelphia on Tuesday.
James played 12 snaps in the Eagles' Week 2 loss to Atlanta, 11 of which came on special teams, but he now finds himself without an NFL home. At just 23 years of age, time remains on James' side. While he's likely to find a new team before long, don't expect the young corner to be fantasy relevant in 2019.
