Dolphins waived CB Cordrea Tankersley.

The move was simultaneous with Tankersley's activation off the COVID-19 list. The No. 97 overall pick of the 2017 draft, Tankersley's career has never gotten off the ground because of injury. Old for a fourth-year pro — Tankersley turns 27 in November — his NFL future is grim.

Dolphins placed CB Cordrea Tankersley on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Long snapper Blake Ferguson and DT Benito Jones were also placed on the list. This does not necessarily mean the three tested positive for the virus, as players in close contact with others who have tested positive can also land on the list. Tankersley, a former third-round pick, already faced an uphill climb to make the roster after dealing with an ACL injury and spending last season on the PUP list.

Tankersley (knee) wasn't activated off the PUP list Wednesday and will be out the rest of the season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Tankersley returned to practice in mid-October and had a three-week window to practice where the Dolphins could activate him, but the team allowed that deadline to pass Wednesday with no roster move. The 25-year-old indicated he's healthy after recovering from a torn ACL in November 2018, but the team said he's still not in game shape.

Tankersley (knee) was designated to return off the PUP list and resumed practicing Wednesday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Tankersley was limited to six games last season due to a torn ACL but now has a chance to rejoin the Dolphins. The 25-year-old will have until Nov. 6 to prove at practice that he's worthy of a spot on the 53-man roster.
