McKinzy (undisclosed) had his practice squad contract with the Redskins expire Monday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzer reports.
McKinzy was let go by the Redskins in early October but remained with the club on the practice squad, but he later went down with the undisclosed injury. The 27-year-old appeared in three games with Washington in each of the past two seasons.
McKinzy was placed on Washington's practice squad injured list Wednesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
The specifics of the injury remain unclear, so it's not known how long McKinzy is expected to be sidelined. The 26-year-old was waived by the Redskins in early October before signing to the practice squad.
The Redskins cut McKinzy on Monday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
McKinzy has battled injuries during his NFL career, having suited up for only six games since signing with the Redskins in 2018. He's notched just two tackles and one sack in that span. The 26-year-old will now look to catch on as a special-teams contributor and depth linebacker elsewhere in the league.
McKinzy (hip) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
McKinzy's hip issue forced him to sit out Monday's loss to the Bears. He was limited in Wednesday's practice but now looks back to full health. It appears as though McKinzy is on track to suit up versus the Giants on Sunday.
