Cardale Jones
Player News
The Seahawks released Jones from the practice squad Wednesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
The Seahawks chose to add defensive players to the practice squad to replace Jones, who was unlikely to be elevated to the active roster unless Russell Wilson or Geno Smith were injured. If either of those quarterbacks are hurt in the future, Jones may rejoin the team since he has an understanding of its system.
Jones has been signed to the Seahawks' practice squad, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports.
Jones threw 11 passes as a member of the Bills back in 2016 but hasn't seen any game action since. The former Ohio State quarterback is unlikely to be promoted to the active roster barring an injury to quarterbacks Russell Wilson or Geno Smith.
Jones was released Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Jones appeared to be the odd man out as soon as the Chargers drafted Easton Stick in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The soon-to-be 27-year-old could catch on as a backup with another team.
Jones will start at quarterback in the Chargers' regular-season finale on Thursday, Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register reports.
With Thursday being the final preseason game, the Chargers will want to get a good look at all their reserves. With that, Jones will get the opportunity to prove himself against the 49ers in a fight for the No. 3 quarterback spot on the final roster.
