Texans signed WR Braxton Berrios, formerly of the Dolphins, to a one-year, $2 million contract.
Berrios finished last year on injured reserve after suffering a major knee injury in Week 7. Interestingly, he played more outside than inside for the Dolphins last year — 61 snaps outside, 51 in the slot. He probably profiles as depth at this point in his career, entering his age-30 season. Berrios has experience as a returner and that could be the ultimate aim of this signing for the Texans.
Dolphins placed WR Braxton Berrios (knee) on injured reserve.
Drew Rosenhaus, Berrios’ agent, said he was “fearful” that Berrios sustained a significant injury and it sounds like that is very much the case. With Miami’s main wideouts mostly healthy this year, Berrios had played just 27 percent of the offensive snaps.
Dolphins agreed to terms with WR Braxton Berrios on a one-year contract.
Berrios’ deal is worth up to $3 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The veteran receiver caught 27 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown last season with the Dolphins and also served as their primary kick/punt returner, totaling 41 returns for 676 total yards. He’ll likely continue to see action as a returner while being used sparingly in the passing game.
Braxton Berrios (hamstring) is questionable for Week 11 against the Raiders.
Durham Smythe is also questionable. Both pass-catchers logged a pair of limited practices to close the week and should suit up on Sunday. If one or both are ruled out, there could be some room for a third receiver to earn some targets in the Miami offense, but we aren’t holding our breath.
