Brandon Williams
Player News
Williams (shoudler) reverted to Arizona's injured reserve Wednesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Williams was waived/injured by the Cardinals during final roster cuts. The former third-round pick in the 2016 draft could reach an injury settlement with the team once he recovers from the injury or else he is set to watch the season from the sidelines.
The Cardinals waived/injured Williams (shoulder) on Saturday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
The Cardinals picked Williams in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but he hasn't lived up to his potential. Williams has mainly played in a special-teams role the last two years, so this training camp was likely a final audition. The injury was unfortunate for Williams' chances, and he'll likely revert to injured reserve after clearing waivers.
The Cardinals activated Williams (back) off the physically unable to perform list Sunday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Williams had been dealing with a back injury up to this point but was finally cleared by team doctors. The 26-year-old saw 85 defensive snaps last year for the Cardinals and was a factor on special teams, recording 192 kick-return yards. Expect the Texas A&M product to vie for a roster spot now that he's fully healthy.
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told reporters that rookie Brandon Williams is a favorite to start opposite Patrick Peterson at cornerback.
Well, it's Williams' job to lose. Patrick Peterson is the team's unquestioned top corner, but Williams has impressed so much that Arians feels comfortable giving him the keys right away. The team also has Justin Bethel, who is injured, but the secondary is looking strong for Arizona.
