A.J. Derby
Player News
Derby was cut by the Saints on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Derby joined the Saints this offseason after stints with the Dolphins, Broncos and Patriots. New Orleans cut Derby, and the team seems fine with its tight end trio of Jared Cook, Josh Hill and Dan Arnold.
Derby signed a contract with the Saints on Wednesday, Herbie Teope of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Derby is present for the Saints' practice Wednesday, so an official announcement of his signing should be only a matter of time. The veteran tight end missed most of the 2018 campaign in Miami due to a lingering foot injury, and will now work to carve out a depth role with the Saints.
A.J. Derby (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17.
Derby will miss a second straight game due to a concussion. The rookie tight end played six games (three starts) for the Broncos this season, bringing in 16-of-20 targets for 160 yards.
A.J. Derby didn't practice on Thursday.
Derby is recovering from a concussion, and has caught 16 passes for an even 160 yards. He is, at best, the second TE when he has been healthy.
