The Cleveland Cavaliers are waiving Jacob Gilyard. The former Memphis Grizzlies point guard signed a training camp deal with the Cavs in late September.
Gilyard is looking for a new team after averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 assists for the Grizzlies last season. He seems unlikely to play a significant role for any team at this point, as the regular season is right around the corner.
According to a report from Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, Jacob Gilyard, Zhaire Smith, and Jules Bernard are among the Cavaliers’ latest training camp signees. They also signed Pete Nance, Nae’Qwan Tomlin, and Gabe Osabuohien.
Gilyard appeared in 37 games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 assists per game.
Jacob Gilyard (left hip contusion) is available for Friday’s game against the Knicks.
Gilyard was initially probable for Friday’s game, and there’s a good chance he will be in the rotation. The Nets are without Dennis Schroder and Dennis Smith Jr., who have been ruled out for the team’s final two games of the regular season. Gilyard should not be rostered in active leagues for Friday, but he could be worth a look on Sunday if the minutes are there.
Jacob Gilyard has signed a two-way contract with the Nets, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Gilyard was waived by Memphis earlier in the season, but he was waived to give Jordan Goodwin a spot on their roster. Gilyard will get a new a chance with Brooklyn, but he will likely spend most of his time in the G-League.
