The Chicago Bulls signed and waived Javon Freeman-Liberty on Saturday, according to the NBA"s transactions log.
Freeman-Liberty averaged 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game through his 22 appearances with the Raptors last season. He’ll get a chance to play for the Windy City Bulls in 2024-25 if there’s an Exhibit 10 language in his latest contract.
The Raptors have waived Javon Freeman-Liberty.
Freeman-Liberty’s contract for the 2024-25 season was not guaranteed, so his departure will not significantly impact Toronto’s cap situation. As a rookie, he appeared in 22 games last season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.3 minutes. Freeman-Liberty’s departure will not impact fantasy basketball.
Javon Freeman-Liberty amassed 24 points (7-of-14 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), two rebounds, three assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers in Wednesday’s 86-76 loss to Utah, playing 24 minutes.
With Gradey Dick (ankle) sidelined, the Raptors needed to get additional offense from someone on Wednesday. Enter Freeman-Liberty, who led all players with 24 points and was Toronto’s lone double-digit scorer. While he does have a contract for next season, it will not become fully guaranteed until January 10. Given Freeman-Liberty’s play in Las Vegas, he’s taking steps toward ensuring his future in Toronto. Whether or not that’s enough to make him fantasy-relevant remains to be seen.
Javon Freeman-Liberty came away with eight points, a rebound, seven assists and two blocks across 33 minutes in Sunday’s loss to the Heat.
The DePaul product averaged just under 18 minutes per game as a rookie, but over the final 11 contests, he logged 23.3 minutes and had some strong performances. He scored in double figures six times, including a career-high 20 points against Indiana on April 9. Freeman-Liberty could see an increased role in Year 2 as a key reserve for a rebuilding Toronto team, especially if Gary Trent Jr. leaves in free agency this summer.
