According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Isaiah Jackson has been diagnosed with a torn right Achilles tendon.
Jackson suffered the non-contact injury during the fourth quarter of Friday’s loss to the Pelicans. He’s the second Pacers big man to suffer a torn Achilles this season, with James Wiseman doing so during the opening game. This leaves Indiana severely shorthanded behind starter Myles Turner. Obi Toppin may take on some center minutes, freeing up additional opportunities for Jarace Walker at the four.
Isaiah Jackson did not return to Friday’s loss to the Pelicans after suffering an apparent right calf injury during the fourth quarter.
Jackson suffered the non-contact injury when he bit on a Brandon Ingram shot fake. While he was able to walk off the court with the help of teammate T.J. McConnell, there’s concern given the season-ending Achilles tendon tear James Wiseman suffered on October 23. Following the game, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said that the team did not have an official diagnosis but was “hoping it’s not the worst news.” With Wiseman out for the season and Myles Turner making his return from a sprained ankle on Friday, the last thing the Pacers can afford is to lose another rotation big.
Isaiah Jackson finished Wednesday’s win over Boston with 10 points (3-of-5 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), five rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots in 25 minutes.
With Myles Turner (ankle) sidelined, Jackson made his first start of the season on Wednesday. While fouls were an issue, with the Pacers center fouling out with 1:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, he provided solid production in the percentages and defensive stats. Jackson’s value moving forward will depend on Turner’s availability, with the Pacers facing New Orleans on Friday in their final game of Week 2.
Isaiah Jackson will start Wednesday’s game against the Celtics for the injured Myles Turner (left ankle sprain).
Jackson moving into the starting lineup is unsurprising, as the Pacers don’t have anywhere else to turn. In addition to Turner being sidelined, James Wiseman (Achilles) is out for the rest of the season. Obi Toppin may get some minutes at the five as part of a smaller lineup, which boosts his fantasy value. But Jackson is the addition for managers to make if he’s available on the waiver wire. Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith, and Pascal Siakam complete the starting five.
