Zavier Simpson has signed a 10-day contract with Memphis, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The former Michigan player will get a chance to make his return to the NBA after spending most of this season with Motor City, Detroit’s G-League affiliate. Memphis also signed Maozinha Pereira to a second 10-day, and while both players could end up seeing big minutes at the end of the season, they aren’t worth adding yet.
Zavier Simpson signed a one-year contract with the Pistons on Tuesday.
Detroit already has plenty of depth at point guard, but they added another one with Simpson, who played at the University of Michigan. He may spend more time in the G-League than with the Pistons, which means he won’t impact fantasy basketball.
The Magic announced Saturday that Zavier Simpson and Aleem Ford have been waived.
Simpson and Ford joined the team on Exhibit 10 contracts, which grants the Magic the G League rights to both. Simpson had his moments down the stretch last season as a member of the Thunder, but that wasn't enough to stick with Oklahoma City. The 6-foot-8 Ford appeared in five games for the Magic last season. Jay Scrubb and Alex Morales filled the roster spots left vacant by these transactions.
Zavier Simpson agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Orlando Magic on Friday, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.
Simpson played the last four games of last season with the Thunder, and they didn’t really take him off the court. The Magic probably won’t tank that hard, at least not at first. Simpson shouldn’t see much playing time, if he even makes the final roster, since this is just an Exhibit 10 contract. He’s behind a number of guards in Orlando and may spend a large portion of the year in the G-League.
