Charlie Brown
Player News
Charlie Brown Jr. played 30 minutes in Friday’s 97-89 win over the Celtics, scoring 27 points (10-of-16 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, one block, and five 3-pointers.
Brown has been the Knicks’ best player in Las Vegas and by a fairly wide margin. The free-agent wing, who was waived by the 76ers in October, plied his trade in the G League last season. Brown may not be a power forward, which is the position where the Knicks need additional depth in the aftermath of the Obi Toppin trade, but his performances may be too good to ignore. At a minimum, he’s made a good case for himself to score a training camp invite, be it with the Knicks or another NBA team.
Charlie Brown Jr. shot 8-of-15 from the field and 0-of-1 from the foul line in Wednesday’s 82-80 win over the Magic, scoring 19 points with six rebounds, two assists, one steal, four blocks, and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes.
The Knicks don’t have any stars on their summer roster, which has opened the door for some unheralded prospects to make a name for themselves. Brown, who has prior NBA experience, would fit the bill, and he has been the Knicks’ best player in Las Vegas. He was impactful on both ends of the floor on Wednesday, with his first-half production keeping New York within striking distance. Finishing the week strong could be enough to get Brown a training camp invite, be it from the Knicks or another team.
Charlie Brown Jr. logged 31 minutes in Saturday’s 110-101 loss to Philadelphia, finishing with 17 points (7-of-13 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one blocked shot.
Brown was one of the Knicks’ better performers in the team’s summer league opener, and the absence of first-round picks may open the door for a player like him to earn a training camp invite. He’s appeared in 41 NBA games over two seasons, spending the 2022-23 campaign with the 76ers’ G League affiliate. Brown’s unlikely to impact fantasy basketball next season, but games like the one he had on Saturday will go a long way toward ensuring him another opportunity to earn a roster spot in the fall.
The Sixers are waiving swingman Charlie Brown Jr.
They decided to convert Michael Foster Jr.'s camp deal into a two-way contract and it looks like Brown is the odd man out.
