With De’Andre Hunter (foot) sidelined, Atlanta needed someone to step up and provide some scoring off the bench. Mathews certainly helped from beyond the arc. He has proven on multiple occasions this season that he can get scorching hot from beyond the arc when he gets the chance, and that was the case in this game. His role is too inconsistent to consider rostering him in standard leagues, but this was a fantastic performance for Mathews. Hunter should be back for the second leg of this back-to-back, but even if he isn’t, there will be safer streaming options on a day with 11 games.

While Daniels returns after missing two games, the Hawks will not have Jalen Johnson for Wednesday’s game in Denver. He’s replaced in the lineup by Mathews, who can provide value to managers needing 3-point production. The Hawks were also without Johnson for the first meeting in Atlanta, with Denver winning convincingly.

Mathews got off to an insanely hot start to this game. He entered halftime with 15 points and five 3-pointers without missing a shot. Bogdan Bogdanovic was sidelined, so Quin Snyder turned to Mathews to be their floor spacer off the bench, and he delivered. Mathews is an elite shooter, but his role and opportunity hasn’t been consistent enough for him to be worth rostering. It was a great game for him, but he should be left on the waiver wire.

With Jalen Johnson (leg) as a late scratch, Quin Snyder will opt for more shooting in the starting lineup with Mathews. De’Andre Hunter and Larry Nance should be candidates for extra minutes off the bench, and Bogdan Bogdanovic’s return adds another wrinkle to the rotation.
