However, the team will continue to support him in his recovery from the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered during the summer. According to Charania, Harrell hopes to be cleared for a return after the All-Star break.

Harrell was diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus a few weeks ago, and he finally had surgery to repair it. He is considered out indefinitely. Harrell re-signed with Philadelphia this summer, but they also added Mo Bamba and brought back Paul Reed. Philly will have plenty of center depth behind Embiid even if Harrell misses the majority of the season.

According to Shams, Harrell got an MRI on Wednesday to “assess recent right knee swelling following his offseason workouts.” It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined, but Paul Reed is shaping up to be a sneaky, late-round flyer in redraft leagues as Joel Embiid’s primary backup.

Harrell was a depth piece that didn’t see much of a role behind Joel Embiid last season. He declined his player option and could’ve signed anywhere, but he opted to remain in Philly and compete with Mo Bamba and Paul Reed for the backup center spot. There isn’t any fantasy value coming from Embiid’s backup, unless he’s not in the lineup. However, with three guys behind him competing for minutes, none of them will be great options.
