Payne is leaving will leave Panathinaikos to join Asvel in France, Emiliano Carchia of Sportnado reports.
Payne continues to bounce around overseas leagues. He last played in the NBA during the 2017-18 campaign, appearing in five games for the Magic.
Payne is expected to sign with Panathinaikos, Kostas Giataganas of EuroHoops.com reports.
Payne has been overseas in China prior to this contract, and the last NBA action he saw was five games for Orlando during the 2017-18 campaign. It's unclear if the 27-year-old will make it back to the NBA.
Payne was waived by the Magic on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Payne has been back and forth between the Magic and their G-League affiliate this season. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds across 8.6 minutes in five games with the team.
Payne (hand) has been recalled from the Magic's G-League team in Lakeland, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Payne fractured his hand in early October, but made his return on Nov. 27, tallying 26 points in his debut. The decision to recall the big man is due to Aaron Gordon suffering a concussion in Friday's loss to the Nuggets. While he is expected to provide depth in the frontcourt, it remains to be seen if he will get any time in the rotation.
