Perry Jones III
Player News
Jones was waived by the Pelicans on Saturday, Scott Kushner of The Advocate reports.
Jones joined the Pelicans on a training camp deal back in September and ended up taking part in three preseason games, averaging 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist across 15.2 minutes. However, he didn't make enough of an impression on the coaching staff to make the final roster and will now return to the free agent pool. If he doesn't find any suitors elsewhere, Jones could try his luck in the G-League, or head overseas if he finds a more lucrative offer.
Jones and the Pelicans agree to a training camp deal Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Jones last played in the league during the 2014-15 season. He spent all three years of his career with the Thunder. Most recently, the 25-year-old played with BC Khimki of the Russian VTB United Leauge. Albeit a long shot, the Pelicans are thin on wing depth, so Jones could potentially land a spot on the regular season roster if he can impress in camp.
Perry Jones has cleared waivers and is now pondering his future.
Jones was the last cut by Boston before the team finalized their 15-man roster. The former Baylor product has averaged 11.7 minutes and 4.3 points over three NBA seasons. He should find a free agent deal at some point this year.
Celtics have waived forward Perry Jones III and guard Corey Walden.
Jones was not a shining star in the preseason, averaging just 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in limited action. He and Walden are likely destined for the D-league.
