Bulls assistant coach Chris Fleming will interview for the Knicks' vacant head coaching job on Thursday.
Tom Thibodeau is widely believed to be the frontrunner for the job, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski in early June, but the Knicks are casting a wide net in their search. Other coaches expected to interview include current interim coach Mike Miller, former Nets coach Kenny Atkinson, 76ers assistant Ime Udoka, and former Hawks and Knicks coach Mike Woodson.
The Knicks plan to interview Mike Woodson for their vacant head coaching position.
Interim head coach Mike Miller is in the running for the permanent job, and Woodson joins a list of candidates that includes Kenny Atkinson and Tom Thibodeau. The report by Danny Abriano of SNY adds, "Interviews are expected to begin once New York has clarity on what will happen with the rest of the NBA season." Woodson might be a long shot, though, since sources report that if Miller isn't retained the most likely hire will be Thibodeau.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Knicks president Leon Rose is not expected to make any front office changes during the hiatus.
Rose is reportedly holding scouting meetings with his staff via conference call/video regarding the draft. Per Berman's report, "it’s a good bet Knicks GM Scott Perry will be in place for the NBA Draft 2020 whenever it is held. The current date is June 25. What happens after the Knicks’ draft is unclear." Interim head coach Mike Miller will likely be replaced once the team settles on a GM.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, Knicks president Leon Rose said he had been impressed by interim head coach Mike Miller.
It doesn't sound like Rose plans to install Miller as the team's head coach next season, but does want Miller to stay with the organization. Per Begley, "some prominent people at Madison Square Garden would like to see Miller have a role with the team next season, regardless of who Rose hires as the head coach."
