Cole Aldrich
Player News
Aldrich was waived by the Hawks on Tuesday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Aldrich was merely a camp body for the Hawks and wasn't expected to make much of an impact if he did surprisingly make it through the final roster cuts. Instead, Aldrich is now expected to head overseas and is finalizing a deal to play in China, according to freelance reporter Jeff Goodman. If he plays well with his Chinese club team, there's certainly a chance he's able to land a spot in the NBA next season.
Aldrich will sign a training camp deal with the Hawks, Jace Frederick of St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Aldrich, who is entering his age 29 season, appeared in just 21 games for the Timberwolves last season as a depth option at center. If he ends up making the Hawks roster, it seems unlikely his role would be much bigger this season. He's never cracked 1,000 minutes in a single season.
Aldrich was waived by the Timberwolves on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Aldrich spent the previous two seasons in Minnesota, but saw his role largely reduced from an already limited workload this past year. He saw the court just 21 times for an average of 2.3 minutes per contest. The veteran big man will now pursue a new opportunity.
Alrdrich (illness) will remain out for Friday's game against Dallas, Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune reports.
Aldrich will miss a third straight game while fighting an illness, but the expectation is that he'll be back to availability within the next few days. Regardless, the former Kansas standout isn't a fantasy contributor in leagues of any size.
