Reggie Williams
Player News
Williams was released by the Pelicans on Tuesday and will return to the D-League, Erik Horne of The Oklahoman reports.
With the Pelicans electing to sign Wayne Selden to a 10-day contract, it was only a matter of time before Williams was let go, as his contract was only partially guaranteed. He saw action in six games for the duration of his stint with New Orleans and managed averages of just 4.5 points and 1.0 rebound across 13.2 minutes per contest. He's expected to rejoin the Oklahoma City Blue of the D-League with the hope of getting another shot from a different organization.
The Pelicans are expected to waive Williams prior to Wednesday's game against the Raptors in order to sign Wayne Selden to a 10-day contract, Justin Verrier of ESPN.com reports.
Williams signed a contract with the Pelicans for the remainder of the season back on Feb. 24, but given the limited guaranteed money in the deal, New Orleans won't lose much should they choose to waive him. The veteran wing has made just one appearance with the Pelicans in his second stint with the club this season and is an expendable piece with all of Hollis Thompson, Solomon Hill, E'Twaun Moore, Dante Cunningham and the newly-signed Jordan Crawford ahead of him on the depth chart.
Williams will sign with the Pelicans for the remainder of the season, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.
Williams made five appearances for the Pelicans earlier in the season before being waived on Jan.1. However, they'll need his presence now after Omri Casspi broke his thumb during his Pelicans debut. Williams is a three-point threat, knocking down five of his 10 attempts from that distance during his five-game stint with the team earlier in the season.
Reggie Williams has been waived by the Pelicans.
Williams, a seven-year veteran of the league, was waived by the Pelicans earlier today. The former VMI man played in just five games for New Orleans this season, averaging 5.0 points in 12.6 minutes played per game. At this point it's hard to say what the next step will be for his career but he's played overseas and in the D-League, so I'd wager that he'd end up in one of those two places for the rest of this season.
